John Lundstram has been sent off for Sheffield United against Brighton and fans think it is an incredibly harsh decision.

The Blades arrived at the AMEX Stadium rock bottom of the Premier League having earned just one point all season.

Lundstram challenged Joel Veltman and won the ball initially, before planting his studs on the Dutchman's leg.

Referee Peter Bankes initially gave a yellow card, but after consulting VAR it was upgraded to a straight red.

Sheffield United had already seen John Fleck go off with injury and another midfielder leaving the pitch will infuriate Chris Wilder.

Sky Sports' Roy Keane and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink both said at half time that Lundstram was 'reckless' and 'out of control' when making the challenge.

Veltman didn't come out for the second half and was replaced by Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

Fans have reacted to the challenge and they think it was incredibly harsh to send the 26-year-old off.

United were in the ascendancy prior to the red and nearly took the lead.

David McGoldrick's free kick almost bent into the bottom right corner, but Robert Sanchez got down to his left to get a firm hand to it.

Lundstram could now miss vital fixtures against Everton and Burnley over the Christmas period.
