West Ham defender Craig Dawson nearly cleaned Che Adams out with an accidental boot to the face during his side's 0-0 draw with Southampton.

Dawson joined the Hammers on loan in the summer and was making his first Premier League start for the club.

Keen to impress, he attempted to clear the ball in his own box by flinging a wild boot at it.

But the 30-year-old missed the ball and caught Adams flush on the cheek and he hit the ground in pain.

Luckily Adams made it back to his feet and was able to stay on the pitch.

Fans have reacted to the challenge and they likened it to WWE legend Shawn Michaels' 'Sweet Chin Music', among other things.

David Moyes putting his faith in Dawson shocked many West Ham fans prior to kick-off and they weren't sure what to think.

But the on-loan Watford man put in an accomplished performance and was named Man of the Match by Amazon Prime's Clinton Morrison.

A point will have pleases West Ham more than the home side, but they're now winless in their last four.

Southampton, meanwhile, have played out two 0-0 draws in a row.
