The 2020 Liverpool side is now one of the greatest teams in history.

That's according to the football statisticians at clubelo.com who use a complicated equation (see the method here) to rank teams.

The Liverpool team, peaking in February specifically, have wrestled their way into the top 10 alongside some iconic club sides.

The Reds are placed in fourth spot, behind the 2012 Barcelona side, 2014 Bayern team and 2014 Real Madrid line-up and above the 2008 Manchester United outfit.

The current Bayern Munich team are also a new entry in the charts at seven, putting them above United, the 2019 Manchester City side and 1973 Ajax.

Both Liverpool and Bayern have enjoyed stellar success in recent times. The Reds won last season's Premier League in style, while Bayern lifted the Champions League.

The two clubs are both on course to enjoy more silverware this term. Jurgen Klopp's side are top of the Premier League and have won their opening three Champions League fixtures for the first time in their history.

Bayern have also won their opening three group fixtures and are top of the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, Klopp has dismissed claims that Liverpool's stunning 5-0 win over Atalanta on Tuesday night gives him a selection headache ahead of the Reds' trip to Manchester City on Sunday.

After scoring three crucial goals in Liverpool's last three games, Diogo Jota replaced Roberto Firmino in the starting line-up in Bergamo and bagged his first treble for the Reds.

Firmino has scored just once for Liverpool this season and Jota's performance added fuel to calls for his inclusion from the start at title rivals City.

However, Klopp said: "Good performances never give me a headache.

"That was the decision tonight. It made sense to use the shape Diogo was in, and because of the way Atalanta plays and defends.

"But we would not even be in the Champions League if Bobby Firmino wasn't with us, and immediately I have to explain why he's not in the team. He will be in the team.

"For a lot of people in the world, if you asked them what makes Liverpool on Sunday special, they would say the way Bobby Firmino is playing."
