Paul Pogba lets his actions speak louder than words on the pitch, but that won't be enough to stop fierce criticism from coming his way this season.

Graeme Souness had some scathing comments on the World Cup-winning Frenchman, calling him a "selfish player" and someone who "only plays for himself."

Ouch.

Pogba had been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, with recent reports suggesting that he could be looking to make a return to Juventus during the January transfer window.

According to his column in the Sunday Times, Souness believes that Pogba is only being kept to ensure that his value is maintained.

Considering that United smashed both their own club-record fee by paying £89.3 million, it wouldn't be surprising if the club wanted to make a serious return on its investment should they want to sell him on.

"Pogba plays for himself: it's all about how cool he looks, showing us how clever he is," he said.

"Tottenham's midfielders, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele, were different gravy - players who keep the ball and move it quickly."

"I reckon Pogba's only in the team to maintain his transfer value until United can sell him, because he doesn't merit his place for any other reason. Perhaps we're now seeing the selfish player Fergie didn't fancy first time 'round?"

Pogba's relationship with José Mourinho has been a talking point of the season so far, despite the United boss making the Frenchman captain against Leicester City and Brighton.

Pogba played during United's 2-0 victory against Burnley on Sunday, in which he missed a penalty and also Marcus Rashford seeing his first red in his career.

There's no doubt Pogba will be a United player for now, but the big question is will he be at the club by the end of the season?
