Manchester United are in hot pursuit of an attacker to bolster their chances of Premier League glory next season - and boss Jose Mourinho has conjured a back up plan should the moves for Willian and Ivan Perisic fall through.
Last summer, the fee for Inter attacker Perisic was mooted to be around £40 million, but the Serie A side have now doubled their price to £80 million, owing to his breathtaking performances in the World Cup.
Another Man United target is Chelsea's Willian, but his side have already batted away a a number of offers for the Brazilian, and so Man United might just have to turn to an alternative option.
And according to The Independent, the Red Devils are looking to Croatian star Ante Rebic as that option, after his impressive World Cup performance, where he helped the side reach the final.
The 24-year-old has been playing in the German league recently. He spent the last two seasons on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Fiorentina, and the Bundesliga decided to purchase the player for €2m at the end of last season, as was their option to do so via a contract agreement.
Gareth Bale has been raised as an option too, but the sensational move of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Juventus for £100 million has changed the dynamics of the situation.
The Red Devils also want a centre-back but even if they get their first choice targets, the club, unlike last season, are not considered as formidable title-contenders, despite finishing second last season.
There is too much unrest going on at the club and this must be cause for concern for Man United supporters. The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba - though clearly talented individuals - are not performing for their manager.
Getting the right names into the side is one thing, but getting those names to play for you is another thing in entirely.
