Manchester United are looking for a superfan to help run their social media channels - and they'll be paid a salary of £100,000.

The Mirror have reported that United are on the hunt for a 'Head of Social Media' that will be tasked with communicating with their 1.1 billion online fans.

A job application for the role reads successful candidates will be "Someone who is obsessed with data but equally obsessed with new and interesting ways to connect with fans."

The job is also called an 'exciting vacancy' with a further statement reading: "This is a unique opportunity for an analytical, organised and creative individual to lead one of the world's largest branded social media portfolios."

One key role of the job will involve working alongside players on 'content and strategy'.

"We're looking for an industry leading, established, creative and highly organised social media professional," the application goes on to state.

The social media manager will not be controlling the player's social media but will have a direct impact on posts.

Players are set to be reminded of their responsibilities and warned to not flaunt their wealth given the current global climate due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The last year has seen a number of players criticised by fans and pundits alike for their social media activity.

Jesse Lingard uploaded a video last summer while on his summer holiday that made him fear his United career was over.

"It genuinely was a mistake to post it," Lingard explained.

"I have a lot of young followers and I would never put that out there deliberately. It was an accident. I was meaning to send it privately to one of my friends. I was on a plane waiting to take off. Someone from the club texted me and said, 'Take the video down.'

"When I realised what I had done, my heart just sank into my stomach. I was like, "I am done at United now. This is the final straw".

Paul Pogba also came under fire back in January after posting a video immediately after an ankle operation stating: "I don't even know if I'm OK or if I'm high or if I'm sober, just don't ask me if it went well, I don't know."

United are currently fifth in the Premier League and three points off the top four.
