Manchester United are closing in on a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.

The highly-rated 25-year-old is subject to discussions between Man United and Shakhtar, with the two clubs reportedly locked in advanced negotiations that could see the player make the move to Old Trafford this summer.

The Brazilian has impressed many with his time at the Ukrainian club. It has even been reported that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was after him - despite it looking as though Jose Mourinho was nabbed the player from under his nose.

The Man United boss wants to bring in Fred before the World Cup, so a deal could be signed and sealed in a matter of weeks.

Safe to say, the Man United supporters are happy that their club are making their transfer moves early on.

It's thought that Fred could be a replacement to Marouane Fellaini, with the Belgium international becoming out of favour with Mourinho.

Man United have had a tough season despite finishing runners-up in the league. Their closest rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool enjoyed great success in the 2017/18 campaign. City won the Premier League at a canter, breaking many league records along the way, finishing on 100 points, whilst Liverpool have enjoyed unprecedented success in the Champions League, and face Real Madrid in the final of the competition this weekend in Kiev.

Can Fred be the answer that Man United are looking for?
