Romelu Lukaku has revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to play him as a right winger is what convinced him to leave Manchester United.

Lukaku departed Old Trafford in the summer and joined Inter Milan in August.

The Belgian has discussed having to play as a right winger is what sealed his decision to leave 'The Red Devils'.

"It was after the game against West Ham at home, Solskjaer decided to put me on the right wing, very wide," Lukaku told Corriere dello Sport per Daily Mail.

"Once I learned that Solskjaer planned to put me on the wing, then I knew my time at Manchester United was over."

He also said that he voiced his issues to the Norwegian after a game against Chelsea and said he wanted to leave.

Per The Metro he said he appreciated the way United conducted themselves around his exit:

"So after the match against Chelsea, on April 28, the coach called me for a meeting and I told him what I thought and that I wanted to leave.

"He read in my face that I didn't want to stay any longer and he replied that he didn't want to hold anyone against it.

"He understood my point of view and assured me that he would do everything possible to satisfy me."

"This is why the leaders of United and Solskjaer will have my eternal respect."

Lukaku was used as a winger in a few games at United and produced a fine performance there against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

United won 3-1 and Lukaku made two assists.

But his main role is as a striker and his opportunities were limited by Solskjaer's fondness for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

He's settled in to life at Inter comfortably and has scored nine goals in his first twelve Serie A games.

Antonio Conte's side are currently hot on the heels of league leaders Juventus in the title race.

The Belgium international spoke of his fondness for the Nerroazzuri and said he has always wanted to play for them.

'I've dreamed of Inter for some time. I loved Ronaldo and Adriano, but it was Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] that taught me everything, especially in our talks on the team bus. I believe he will return to Serie A."

United have had the emergence of Mason Greenwood to add to their forward line this season.

The 18-year-old has stepped up after United didn't sign a replacement for Lukaku.

They travel to Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon to face Sheffield United.
