Chelsea Vs Liverpool: Predictions, Team News, Injuries And How to Watch

Chelsea Vs Liverpool: Predictions, Team News, Injuries And How to Watch

Liverpool visit Chelsea on Sunday in a mouthwatering clash as the champions take on the club who've made the biggest splash in the 2020 transfer market.

Jurgen Klopp and Frank Lampard clashed on the touchline during the 5-3 victory by LFC in July, with the Blues boss warning Liverpool "don't get too arrogant" afterwards.

We can't expect a 10-goal thriller (probably) but there's even more on the line today as both teams look to put down a title-race marker. All eyes will be on Timo Werner, the German international who for so long looked destined for Liverpool only to end up in west London - and who is fit despite picking up a dead leg last weekend.

Chelsea vs Liverpool team news and injuries

Lampard has made a big pre-match call in deciding against giving Thiago Silva his first Premier League start. Chelsea's defence looked dodgy in the 3-1 at Brighton - but the Blues boss has said the Liverpool game comes "too soon" for the Brazilian centre-back who's still working on his fitness.

Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech also aren't fit to debut, while Christian Pulisic is back in training but hasn't quite recovered from the hamstring injury he picked up against Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

Klopp has fewer injury concerns but plenty of selection issues. With new signing Thiago Alcantara officially available (but unlikely to start), it'll be intriguing to see how Klopp lines up his midfield trio. Jordan Henderson was fit to start in the 4-3 win over Leeds, but could only last 66 minutes and Liverpool conceded as soon as their captain left the pitch.

Liverpool looked unusually sloppy at the back in their league opener with Virgil van Dijk making a howler. It'll be fascinating to see if the pacey Werner can catch out Liverpool on the break - and how Lampard's side will shut down Andy Robertson who, aside from hat-trick king Mo Salah, was the Reds most dangerous player at Leeds.

That means you can watch all the pre-match buildup, post-match interviews (as Klopp and Lampard try to pretend they like one another), Newcastle vs Brighton earlier in the day at 2pm and two live Premier League fixtures on Monday alone.

Chelsea vs Liverpool predictions

Both teams to score seems the safest prediction. Clambering off the fence, however, let's say that the champions more settled team gives them an edge over Chelsea's exciting new recruits.

A 3-2 Liverpool win, thanks to Kai Havertz accidentally picking out Trent Alexander-Arnold with a pass intended for the linesman. Klopp does the Vince McMahon billionaire strut into Chelsea's technical area, while Lampard writes 'ARROGANT' in the air with his finger. Never going to happen? Well, you'll have to watch on Sunday to find out.
