Roberto Firmino has incurred the anger of Liverpool fans by apparently liking Richarlison's Instagram post of the Everton player scoring at Anfield.

Richarlison's early goal put Everton on the path to a 2-0 victory on Sunday, the Toffees first away win at Liverpool since 1999. Firmino played in the match but it was the LFC striker's post-match actions on social media that had supporters fuming.

Richarlison posted an image of himself celebrating his goal - sticking out his tongue and in another image hugging Carlo Ancelotti - and Firmino, it seems, gave the post a cheeky like.

Oh dear. Richarlison's post was captioned (in Portuguese): "Nothing but the best is enough."

But Liverpool fans have been seeing anything but the best from their side in recent weeks.

Firmino has come under scrutiny as the Reds striker has only sporadically shown his best form. Liverpool's No 9 has just six goals in 35 games in all competitions - and while his unselfish play means he can't be judged entirely on his scoring rate, it's not an ideal return.

Given all he's done for the club, many Liverpool fans will have sympathy for Firmino's poor run of form but they may be less forgiving about him apparently congratulating a rival for inflicting a painful defeat.

Some Liverpool fans were already angry over goalkeeper Alisson sharing a friendly moment with Jordan Pickford post-match (especially after his challenge earlier in the season caused Virgil van Dijk's ACL injury). Now this.

Richarlison and Firmino are international teammates for Brazil - so this could be a case of Firmino tapping the like button on his friend's post without actually looking at what it was (we've all been there).

Or, alternatively - and we hate to shatter the illusion - but many footballers have their social media accounts overseen for them, so maybe Firmino wasn't even responsible for this errant 'like'.

But either way, seeming to endorse Richarlison's triumphant Everton post has not gone down at all well among a large section of Liverpool's support.
