Lionel Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo Could Finally Play Together At Same Club

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing for the same team could genuinely become a reality as both are wanted by the same ambitious club.

Who else could make football fans' dreams come true, of course, other than David Beckham. It's his Inter Miami side that have a grand plan to unite the two greatest players of their generation (possibly under the management of Phil Neville).

Asked about the club's desire to sign the pair at a 2021 MLS pre-season event, Becks said: "Without a doubt, those are the type of players that we aspire to bring to our club.

"I think that the fans would really appreciate that. But, as owners, we want players here that are driven, that want to win, and that's our priority."

The idea isn't as outlandish as it sounds. Messi is 34 in the summer and out of contract at Barcelona and could see him tempted by a vast MLS offer, even if he does spend another season in Europe first.

Ronaldo, who turned 36 in February, is out of contract at Juventus in 2022 and has long been linked with a move to MLS to finish his glittering career.

As far as wages go, MLS clubs can break their salary cap for "marquee" players that attract attention to the league worldwide - such as for Beckham when he joined LA Galaxy. The cost could even be spread among MLS to some extent, due to the rise in global profile a star player brings.

We're pretty sure both Messi and Ronaldo would fall into this category as marquee players.

Although Inter Miami do already have France World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi and former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain on their books. Plus Ryan Shawcross. Can't forget him.

"With Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo, these are players that we feel add to the glitz and the glamour of what the club is," Inter Miami co-owner Beckham added.

"Going forward, we also want to bring other players in if we have the opportunity to bring some great names in, you obviously mentioned Leo and Cristiano.

"They've been at the top of their game for the last 15 years because of hard work. Sir Alex Ferguson was a master at it.

"He didn't always bring in the best player in the world. He didn't always bring in the top player. He bought the right player for the club. And I think that that's the one thing that I take into our club, is the player has to be right."

Do it, Becks. Make our Messi-Ronaldo-Shawcross dream a reality in 2022 and we will be forever grateful.
