Cristiano Ronaldo is using rugby studs in Juventus training in an attempt to return even faster than before.

Serie A returns on June 20 after a three month hiatus and Ronaldo believes using the rubber studs will give him an advantage when he takes to the field again.

Italian outlet Tuttosport have stated the 35-year-old is trialing the method so his boots grip the turf faster while he runs.

Ronaldo can already reach blistering speeds no matter what he wears so it remains to be seen how much of an impact they have.

His Nike boots typically come equipped with metal studs but the switch to rubber will help with flexibility and speed.

The company rumoured to be supplying the boots are French brand Smartpower.

Smartpower allow for stars to tailor the studs to their own running style while maximising acceleration.

Players in Ligue 1 have trialed the method including Montpellier's Andy Delort, who recorded the fastest sprint in the league all season.

The 28-year-old clocked in at 38.6km/h at one point this year which is faster than any speed Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has.

It's clear to see that Portuguese international Ronaldo is desperate to get off to a flying start when football returns.

He had struggled in the latter stages of 2019 but begun 2020 in prolific form as Juventus battled for the Serie A title with Lazio.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was recently on the training pitch four hours before his teammates according to AS.

It's also said that 'CR7' has returned in even better shape than he was in prior to football being postponed - having kept up his intense training regime while in quarantine.

There are countless stories about his innate work ethic and dedication seeing him take part in late night training sessions after big Champions League games - so it's no surprise that he's got to where he is in his career.

His opponents will likely have to be prepared for one of the most motivated versions of Ronaldo.
