A video has documented all 91 goals Lionel Messi scored during 2012 and no other footballer will match that tally.

Messi was just 25-years-old and managed to net an absurd amount for Barcelona and Argentina in just 69 games.

He smashed the previous world record of 85 goals in a calendar year set by Germany legend Gerd Müller 40 years prior.

With his time at Barcelona coming to a premature and shocking end, fans have been reminiscing about his greatest individual season.

What makes it most impressive is the sheer variety of goals Messi managed to score.

Solo efforts, long-range screamers, perfectly placed headers and simple tap-ins, Messi managed to master them all within 365 days.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner notched 13 goals in 12 Champions League appearances, including five-goal and four-goal hauls against Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal respectively.

It also included five goals in eight Copa del Rey games, two goals in two Supercopa ties and 59 goals in 38 La Liga games.

Breaking it down further, Messi scored 14 penalties, hit nine hat-tricks, averaged a goal every 66 minutes and opened the scoring in 21 of the 47 games he found the net in.

78 of his 91 goals were scored inside the penalty area, with 40 of his tally coming in the final half hour of games.

Messi managed to score more than some of Europe's elite clubs at the time, including Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and that year's Champions League winners Chelsea.

In the least surprising result maybe ever, Messi was awarded his fourth Ballon d'Or.

Barcelona didn't win La Liga in the 2011-2012 season, but did come back to win it the following year.

One fan commented: "Do you understand how insane 91 goals in a year is? It'll never ever be done again that is essentially a goal every 4 days."

Another said: "Baffles me that anybody can try and tarnish an achievement like this. It'll never be done at a fully professional level again."

A third added: "Every type of finish, both feet, unstoppable & the best to ever do it. Joy to watch man."

While someone simply put: "A season that proved he's the GOAT."

No decision has been made on Messi's future yet, but he's likely to join PSG and reunite with former teammate Neymar.
