Sergio Aguero has become the highest scoring overseas player in Premier League history following his hat-trick against Aston Villa.

City ran out 6-1 winners at Villa Park and were utterly dominant throughout.

But the main talking point was Aguero equalling and then toppling Thierry Henry's record of 175 goals from an overseas player in the Premier League.

Fans on Twitter were quick to praise the 31-year-old who's become one of the Premier League's all-time greats.

Aguero arrived from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 and has established himself as a City legend.

Breaking the record is the icing on the cake after a dazzling performance from Pep Guardiola's side.

The reigning Premier League champions raced 3-0 ahead before the half-hour mark and their third saw Aguero finish in typical fashion.

He collected the ball outside the area and let rip with a shot that darted past Ørjan Nyland in the Villa net, which equalled Henry's record.

Gabriel Jesus netted a fourth late in the first half but once the second half resumed, all eyes were on Aguero.

He managed to net his 176th and 177th Premier League strike in the second half and emphatically give City all three points.

They move into second place ahead of Leicester City in the Premier League and trail table-topping Liverpool by 14 points.

Do you think Aguero is one of the greatest players in Premier League history?
