Bruno Fernandes Has "Overtaken Kevin De Bruyne To Become The Premier League's Best Player"

Fernandes has more of a "goal threat" than De Bruyne, according to former Premier League striker Dean Ashton.

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes has "overtaken" Kevin De Bruyne to become the best player in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international arrived at United back in January and has helped transform them into title contenders.

De Bruyne meanwhile, registered 20 assists for Manchester City last season and won PFA Player of the Year. But Dean Ashton thinks there's a new midfield king in Manchester.

He told talkSPORT: "I think Fernandes has already overtaken De Bruyne.

"You can see the difference when [Sergio] Aguero doesn't play for Man City. You can see the difference in De Bruyne, in terms of he looks like a frustrated figure in a lot of the games.

"He's still class, of course, as he's got seven assists this season and the same as Bruno.

"It's that goal tally I think that Fernandes brings you. That goal threat that's the difference between him and Kevin De Bruyne and that's why I'd pick him and why I think he's gone ahead of him as, for me, the best player in the Premier League."

Since Fernandes arrived at Old Trafford, he has managed to register 33 goal contributions in 30 games, which is around 75 minutes per contribution.

De Bruyne in that time has 20 goal involvements in 25 games, coming in at 100 minutes per contribution.

While Fernandes has been a standout performer over the last 11 months, Steve McManaman couldn't find a place for him in his 'Team of 2020.'

Anchoring the midfield was Liverpool title-winning duo Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, with De Bruyne ahead of Fernandes.

"I think he's [Fernandes] been incredible for them, I really do, but my team of the year needed to be with Fabinho and Henderson because they won the league by many, many points," McManaman explained on Amazon Prime.

"Then I've flung Kevin De Bruyne in because I just think he's fantastic.

"If I have to choose between Kevin De Bruyne as my attacking midfielder, or Bruno Fernandes, De Bruyne wins every time."

A cheeky dig from the former Liverpool and Real Madrid man followed, with the 48-year-old adding: "I think he's had an incredible impact for Manchester United, scoring an incredible amount of penalties."

Who do you think is better, Bruno Fernandes or Kevin De Bruyne?
