The legendary Premier League ball is back.

Mitre are giving nostalgic football fans a treat by dropping a limited-edition re-release of the Mitre Ultimax Ball today, 25 years since it was first seen in the Premier League.

Just check out this absolutely magnificent sphere. Only 600 of the proper Ultimax balls - which were once thumped by Alan Shearer, caressed by Dennis Bergkamp and sped onto by Michael Owen - are available for sale.

"Best premier league ball ever," hailed one football fan on Twitter. "Oh yes, hit many a crisp volley into row z with this beauty!" came another memory probably shared by many.

No doubt it is a stunning orb and it also stood the test of time, being used across five different seasons, making it the longest-serving ball in Premier League/Premiership history.

If you're fumbling for your credit card - or getting on your knees and praying to Sant Claus - in order to get hold of one, be warned. The 600 individually numbered new Ultimax balls, complete with their own presentation box, are selling at £130. But they'll still probably go fast.

Alternatively, there's a replica version out for just £27. Still decent, but perhaps not "made with the same materials and hand-stitched to the same exacting standards of the original" as promised with the full one.

Alternatively again, you can probably get an Ultimax for free by climbing onto your old school roof and seeing if there are any mouldy old ones left up there from when you booted one up there two decades ago.

But actually don't do that in 2020 (or any year for that matter). It's really not worth the risk.

Is the Mitre Ultimax the GOAT when it comes to Premier League balls? Or is there an even tastier sphere out there? Let us know in the comments.
