Kevin De Bruyne has been brutally mocked for his below par performance in Manchester City's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

City went into the game on a 21-game winning streak but came up short against their bitter rivals, going behind inside two minutes to a Bruno Fernandes penalty.

A number of players didn't perform at their best and the one who stood out most was Belgian playmaker De Bruyne.

Often so calm and composed on the ball, he never looked to settle and dictate play in usual fashion.

De Bruyne's performance was also noticeable considering he came up against Fernandes, the man he is often compared to.

Fernandes stepped up to score after a foul by Gabriel Jesus and it set United up for the rest of the game.

Fans have reacted to De Bruyne's performance and they all agree it was underwhelming from one of the best around.

Luke Shaw added United's second in the second half and it means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now won three Manchester derbies in a row at the Etihad Stadium.

City boss Pep Guardiola congratulated the Red Devils on their performance and admitted his side couldn't cope with their intensity.

"It was a fantastic game. United make incredibly high pressing and they are so fast on the counter," Guardiola said per Daily Star.

"We played good. Unfortunately we couldn't be clinical up front, so we congratulate United.

"We will be the news because we lost. But the news is 21 victories in a row. There are still 30 points to play for and we have to start to win again.

"That's football. Sometimes it happens. We played much better than the game against West Ham which we won.

"It's always the same. We win a game and then move onto the next one."

City still remain top of the Premier League by 11 points and United return to second place.
