Jose Mourinho Wants Toni Kroos To Partner Paul Pogba At Man United

The Man United boss sees these two as the perfect pair for Man United's midfield next season.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has told Ed Woodward that he wants to sign Toni Kroos this summer transfer window.

The German international represented his nation at the World Cup in Russua, where his unstoppable free-kick from an acute angle earned Germany a 2-1 victory over Sweden in the group stages.

His rocket wasn't enough to keep Germany in the competition, however. A 2-0 defeat to South Korea saw them crash out of the tournament in the final game.

Now it is reported via Spanish outlet AS that Mourinho has told CEO Woodward that he sees the 28-year-old Real Madrid star as the ideal partner for Paul Pogba.

Kroos is tied down to a contract with the Spanish giants until 2022. And with a release clause at €500 million (£443m), there are certainly obstacles for the Red Devils to overcome if they want to tie the German down to a deal.

It's also thought that, in the same discussion between manager and CEO, Gareth Bale was named as a transfer option, as well.

The Welsh attacker has been out of favour at the Santiago Bernabéu, but the recent managerial appointment of Julen Lopetegui could change all that.

"Obviously I need to play. That hasn't happened this season for one reason or another," Bale told BT Sport following his side's 3-1 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final last season.

"I was injured for five or six games and I've been fit ever since. 'I'll have to sit down in the summer, discuss it with my agent and take it from there."

Bale and Kroos would certainly be welcome additions to the Man United team, a side who are hoping to build on an underwhelming season last year.
