Jermaine Jenas has criticised Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho for his treatment of Marcus Rashford earlier this season.

Jenas was on BBC Five Live radio show speaking before Man United's upcoming clash against Chelsea in the F.A Cup final when he got a load off his chest, by blasting the Portuguese boss for his treatment of Rashford after Man United's humiliating defeat to Brighton in the Premier League earlier this month.

"I found what Mourinho did after that Brighton game, I thought it was disgusting. I really did," said Jenas. "The thing I really didn't like about it is for him to come out and speak as publicly as he did at that time."

"That was a direct shot at Rashford. It was almost like he enjoyed the failure of Rashford. It gave him the opportunity to go 'Well you lot shut up now. I'm right and you're wrong.' And that is not a point that you should be using on a young player."

This opinion has divided supporters. Some who believe that Jenas is being overly, and some feeling that Mourinho does need to improve his treatment of young players.

Rashford, despite being one of Man United's most key attackers for several years, is still only 20-years-old. In his inaugural season at Old Trafford, he was played as an out and out striker. It saw him net eight games in 18 matches. However, since the arrival of Mourinho, the England international has only scored 24 goals in 104 matches, because of Mourinho's decision to deploy Rashford out on the wing on occasion.

However, Jenas was criticising Mourinho for publicly laying blame on young Rashford's shoulders after the Red Devils' defeat at the hands of Chris Hughton's side.

It is a technique which Mourinho has known to use to get his young players working hard for him. But sometimes this doesn't pay off and players with bags of potential end up leaving for another club.
