Jamie Carragher has recalled the time when Jordan Henderson squared up to Luis Suarez.

The England international is on his way to Russia for the World Cup after a fine campaign with Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, but when he first joined the Reds, despite being a midfielder who was just finding his feet, Henderson wasn't afraid to get stuck in and stand his ground.

Now pundit and former Liverpool defender Carragher has recounted the time when the new-boy, who cost the Merseyside £20 million from Sunderland, got up in Uruguayan striker Suarez's face:

"Jordan cost Liverpool £20 million when he came from Sunderland in 2011, and Kenny Dalglish, the manager at the time, wanted to find a place for him in the team, and he initially played a lot of games on the right of midfield," Carragher explained to ESPN.

"It took him time to find his feet. He could be a very intense character back then who would get frustrated and emotional at times, but I remember him having spat with Luis Suarez in training one day and I just thought: 'Do you know what? He has something.

"They didn't come to blows or anything like that, but Jordan and Luis clashed over something and exchanged words, but Jordan stood up to him.

Wow. Not many would want to get in front of Suarez's, especially with the reputation he has with his gnashes.

Fair play to Henderson. He soon became captain for Liverpool and he could well be lifting the Champions League trophy with them this weekend. All that stands in his and Liverpool's way is the mighty Real Madrid. Yikes.
