Branislav Ivanovic has let Geoff Shreeves off the hook for breaking his heart on live TV.

After Chelsea's famous Champions League semi-final victory over Barcelona in 2012, the Serb was speaking to the Sky Sports reporter when Shreeves asked if he knew he was missing the final.

Ivanovic had received a yellow card in the game, meaning that he was banned for the game.

However, it appeared that the defender didn't realise this was the case, and it looked like you could see the exact moment when the disappointment hit him. He froze for a moment, and Geoff himself likened the moment to shooting Bambi.

This might not have been the case though, with the 36-year-old telling The Times that he didn't actually realise he had been ruled out until he was on the coach later that night.

"Honestly, I was in shock about the whole situation," he said. "Our coaching staff and Roberto Di Matteo [the manager] did not tell us before the game who was in the danger zone. When I got booked, after the game I was only thinking about the final.

"When Geoff surprised me, I wasn't even thinking in my head about the final, I was celebrating the semi-final and a big victory.

"I looked strange in that moment. Even when I got into the dressing room I was celebrating and happy. I realised probably on the bus when I calmed down and found out. I looked on my phone and I found I couldn't play in the final. But I don't have any problem with Geoff, I spoke with him and it was all right, I was fine."

While it may be hard to believe that Ivanovic didn't realise the situation, and he may just be being nice to the reporter, Shreeves took it as an exoneration.

Now back in the Premier League at West Brom, Ivanovic will be hoping Shreeves doesn't ruin his day on live TV again.
