Italian Journalist Names One Player Roma Have To Fear More Than Salah

An alternate perspective.

Liverpool face Roma in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final tonight and attention will surely on Mohamed Salah as the striker comes up against his former side.

The Egyptian King will have to forget about old friendships for the game, having made the £36.9 million move to Anfield only last summer.

Narrative suggests that Liverpool will progress to the final by the man who scored 41 goals for the side this season.

This plethora of goals will make him a marked man in the clash - but Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri suggests that Roma should not become too attached with Salah's capabilities. Instead they should be on alert about another Reds star instead: Roberto Firmino.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily, via the Liverpool Echo he said: "Obviously, they know Mohamed Salah very well.

"Possibly the movement of Roberto Firmino is something that Roma might not be accustomed to, he said.

"These centre forwards who are so productive with their job for the rest of the team - they are not that common in Italy

"Actually, one of the few who does that kind of job is Edin Dzeko - it is what Eusebio Di Francesco told him to change in his game this season.

This concept is nothing new. There have been plenty of articles from Liverpool-oriented media which suggests that, while Salah has been the star of the show, entertaining the audience out front, the Brazilian striker has been the one behind the scenes, pulling the whole show together with robust defensive qualities and formidable goal-scoring ability on the front-line.

"So, knowing what Dzeko is doing, maybe they can stop him, Palmeri continues.

"But Roberto Firmino can be the most unusual thing for Roma - more than Salah or the others."
