It Was Only Maurizio Sarri Who Wanted Me At Chelsea, Says Gonzalo Higuain

Didn't Chelsea back Maurizio Sarri?

Gonzalo Higuain says that he chose AC Milan over Chelsea because the only person who wanted him to move to Stamford Bridge was manager Maurizio Sarri.

Following the move of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for ยฃ100 million, it was reported that Higuain would have to leave the club to make room for the global superstar.

And after much speculation, linking the Argentine striker to a number of clubs, he made the move to Serie A rivals Milan, in a loan deal which could be exercised as part of a permanent transfer.

The highly-rated striker was the subject of interest to new Blues boss Sarri, according to Higuain. He said to a press conference:

"Here at AC Milan, everybody wanted me.That is why I chose the Rossoneri", Higuain added.

He also said that he's not concerned about the pressure facing him at AC, even though the forward has been handed the number nine shirt.

"No [it's no pressure wearing number 9], but it is a source of pride to wear it.

"Milan must have confidence in me and believe that I can do great things."

Now at 30-years-old, Higuain will likely be hitting - or perhaps is even now past - his peak. But it seems like a good move for the attacker. Remaining in Turin would mean he would be competing for a place with Ronaldo. Not a wise move.

Do you think this move will pay off for Milan and Higuain? Would you have rather him come to Chelsea? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
