Ireland Versus USA Has The Strangest Kick-Off Time And No One Knows Why

Ireland Versus USA Has The Strangest Kick-Off Time And No One Knows Why

Just what in the blue hell is going on?

The Republic of Ireland will be playing the USA in a friendly match later today - but with the strangest kick-off time.

There are standard kick-off times in football matches. They are normally on the hour or perhaps quarter or half past - nothing crazy.

3 pm for the Saturday Premier League fixtures, 7:45 pm for the Champions League - these times make logical sense.

But for some reason, for Ireland's encounter with the USA later today, the game will kicks-off at 8:08 pm.

That's right, the game will kick-off eight minutes past the hour, in one of the strangest kick-off times in footballing history.

And people have been pulling their hair out trying to work out why that is.

Ireland and the USA have a connection, with a lot of citizens with heritage to Ireland, particularly in such cities as New York and Boston.

Does the eight minutes have some sort of significance to this? Is eight minutes past something to do with the Boston Tea Party or some other historical factor?

It could've been a typo, a mistake made by one person which was then picked up by countless other publications, the time supposed to be 8:00 pm but someone awfully hungover typed it incorrectly. That's the most likely scenario.

We just hope this little mystery gets solved soon, for all our sakes.
