"I Was Not Wrong To Go To PSG" - Messi Lifts The Lid On His Blockbuster Summer Move

The former Barca man made the switch this summer, but he insists there are no regrets over his choice of club.

Lionel Messi has been speaking about his summer transfer to Paris Saint-Germain for the very time - revealing that he was justified in his decision to move to France.

The Argentine's move was the story of the summer, one that took place partially due to Barcelona's on-going salary issues.

Under La Liga rules, the Catalan giants had to reduce their wage bill by a sizeable amount, which ultimately meant that superstars like Messi and Antoine Griezmann had to either leave the club, or see their salaries slashed.

In the end, Messi opted to link up with former MSN teammate Neymar, by moving to PSG.

It proved to be a controversial transfer, as to many critics it was clear evidence of the Parisian club buying their way to success by assembling the most expensive attack in the history of football.

"I was not wrong to go to PSG," The 34-year-old told magazine France Football (via The Mirror) in a recent interview.

Unfortunately for us, the full interview isn't going to be released until Saturday, so all we have for the moment is one tantalising line that the outlet decided to release early.

And yet, it does tell us a great deal about where the forward's head is at.

His defiant comment, paired with the raw celebration that we saw when he netted against Manchester City last week, paints a portrait of a man determined to deliver success to his new club.

By contrast, Messi's former Barca teammate Luis Suarez is adamant that he always intended to stay at Barcelona, insinuating that the move abroad was instead one of convenience.

"He told me 'I will finish my career at Barcelona', which is what I always wanted, the club that has given me everything and the children are happy. From one hour to the next, everything changed" The Uruguayan told Diario Sport.

While it hasn't been plain sailing for Messi at PSG, especially after his side's defeat to Rennes last weekend, he must be glad to have escaped the ever-sinking ship that is Barcelona.

Far from the club of old, the Spanish side with Ronald Koeman at the helm, is slipping into a huge crisis.

Barca were barely able to register a shot on target in either of their two defeats to Benfica and Atletico Madrid last week - let alone score a goal.

While Messi is certainly missed by his former employer, the man himself is seemingly content with his new beginning, having now finally gotten off the mark with a spectacular first goal at Parc Des Princes.
