RB Leipzig's Timo Werner just completed an astonishing performance during his team's 8-0 demolition of Mainz this afternoon.

The German forward scored three goals and notched up three assists in a sizzling performance that saw his team leapfrog Bayern Munich in the league on goal difference.

It was one of the most dominant performances in European football all season, with RB Leipzig effortlessly tearing their opponents apart. The game was 7-0 by the 50th minute, and everything Leipzig did seemed to work.

Werner was at the centre of the action all afternoon, notching up his first assist within five minutes and scarcely letting up for even a minute.

His first goal came in the 30th minute, after converting a thumping cross into the box from Yussif Poulson into a neat finish from a tight angle.

His second arrived three minutes into the second half- with Leipzig already leading 5-0 by that point- as he took control of the ball on the edge of the penalty area and slotted it into the bottom right corner with a powerful, controlled strike that the Mainz keeper had no chance of stopping.

He finally completed his hat trick in the 80th minute, scoring the eighth and final goal of the day with a powerful close-range strike from inside the box.

It was Christopher Nkunku who notched up the goal of the day though, scoring a screamer from outside the box in the 35th minute after being teed up by Werner in what would end up being his second assist of the day.

The game ended up being the biggest win in Leipzig's history, bringing them up to third place in the Bundesliga table, four points behind leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach after 10 games played.

Werner's performance today has brought his total goal tally for the season up to eleven, with his sensational performances catching the attention of several premier league clubs.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United are vying to sign the 23-year old in January, with Jurgen Klopp's side currently pipping the Red Devils in the chase to secure his signature.

Table-topping Liverpool are reported to have already opened talks with Leipzig chiefs over a move, with rumours suggesting the club may attempt to buy Werner in the winter transfer window and loan him back to Leipzig for the remainder of the season.

United have also been linked with Mario Mandzukic and are said to be close to sealing a deal for the 33-year-old in January, although Werner is believed to be the more appealing long-term option.

Regardless of where the young Bavarian ends up though, he's sure to have increased his transfer value significantly after his performances today.
