Trent Alexander-Arnold has scored a 90th minute screamer to snatch Liverpool a 2-1 victory vs Aston Villa - with England manager Gareth Southgate in attendance.

The 22-year-old has been heavily discussed in recent weeks after being left out of the Three Lions squad last month.

A poor performance vs Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek has seen many doubt if Alexander-Arnold can handle the pressure.

But he came up with a stunning injury time winner from just outside the box at Anfield - sealing a vital first home win in nine for the Reds.

Jamie Carragher provided commentary on the game and he was involved in a heated debate with Gary Neville over Alexander-Arnold on Monday Night Football.

The former Liverpool defender remarked: "Are you watching Gary Neville?" not long after the goal went in.

Fans have reacted to the curling effort and they're happy to see Alexander-Arnold hopefully mark an upturn in form.

Villa did take the lead in the first half through Ollie Watkins and Liverpool thought they'd hit back through Roberto Firmino - before VAR interfered.

A lengthy check saw Diogo Jota judged to have been offside by the smallest of margins.

VAR took its time to determine whether Villa defender Matty Cash had got a touch on the ball and the verdict that he didn't make any contract meant the goal was subsequently chalked off.

It comes just a day after a shock offside call on Wolves striker Willian Jose during their game with Fulham.

Jurgen Klopp's side did get their equaliser through Mohamed Salah in the second half before Alexander-Arnold stepped up to seal all three points.

Liverpool have now moved into the top four temporarily ahead of Chelsea, who play Crystal Palace this evening.
