A 22-Year-Old Defender Scores Lionel Messi-Style Goal Against Barcelona

Jules Kounde, take a bow.

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde scored an absolute worldie to shock Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi was on the pitch for Barca, but it was Sevilla's 22-year-old centre-back who made the mazy, Messi-esque run and finish.

Picking up the ball in midfield, Kounde rampaged past three players - including a filthy nutmeg on Samuel Umtiti - before he slotted perfectly past Marc-Andre ter Stegen. What a goal.

French defender Kounde opened the scoring on the night by first gliding past Antoine Griezmann's lunge, then he skipped past Sergio Busquets, before the wizardry on his countryman Umtiti. Merciless.

Kounde was linked with a move to Manchester United in January and it's said the club are still keeping tabs on the former France Under-21 international. Probably more for his defending (he can play right-back or centre-back) but goals like this are always welcome too.

His first-half wonder goal opened the scoring for Sevilla, before former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic added salt to the wound by scoring against his old team with a sharp finish five minutes before full-time.

Umtiti, who had a game to forget, was playing the Croatian onside before he scored.

Another setback for Ronald Koeman's side, who now have to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit at the Camp Nou in March if they're to progress to the Copa del Rey final.

"We left a lot of space in the first goal, not just in defence, but from the midfield," Barca's manager said post-match.

"And in the second goal we have not done a good job creating the offside. Umtiti was good in the game. He made mistakes like everyone else does.

"It's part of football. It's not fair to go after him. We all lose and we all win together."

Kind words. Let's just hope Umtiti can forget about that nutmeg and move on with his life.
