Gary Neville Has His Say On Who Should Replace Arsene Wenger

It's a good suggestion, but would he leave?

They say that stagnation breeds contempt and eventually revolt, which is why Arsene Wenger will be leaving his post at Arsenal this summer after 22 years in charge.

But can winning three major trophies in the past four years truly be classed as ossification?

Only time will tell whether Arsenal made the right choice or if the dip in form was a result of their rival's progression rather than any actual slump under the helm of Wenger.

Even still, the news of Wenger leaving has been chewed over and mused about enough now to be kicked aside to make room for the next hot topic: his replacement.

Pundit Gary Neville had his say on the matter on the Gary Neville Podcast.

"They have to have a manager who can punch above their weight, and the outstanding candidate for me is Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

"Season after season he has challenged, not just in the Champions League but in La Liga too, with a team that has a big budget but nowhere near that of Barcelona and Real Madrid," said Neville.

Simeone reinvented how we see La Liga. He has prised Atletico into a elite room that once only held only two memberships. His pragmatic and defensive approach to management has forced out a trio of title-challengers, instead of a sometimes quite boorish dual between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Neville continues to explain: "Simeone is a winner, a fighter, he will culturally change everything.

"If Arsenal have aspirations to win the league, and are not going to do it by spending, they're going to have to do it by spending less and achieving more. That's difficult, and you need a special type of manager to do that."

What do you think, would Simeone take up a job at Arsenal? Let us know in the comment section below.
