No, you're not dreaming, but this is certainly some sort of strange reality we're experiencing: England actually beat a team in a penalty shootout; they beat Colombia in the Round of 16 of the World Cup and are now that one step closer to the final.
England will play Sweden this Saturday at 3pm in the quarterfinals of the competition after Gareth Southgate's men defied the odds and broke the lengthy curse surrounding their record from the spot.
The game wasn't smooth sailing by any measure. England controlled the game for the most part and were awarded a penalty after Harry Kane was manhandled inside the box. You would have thought England's opposition might've learned by now. VAR was on hand to make what was clearly the correct call.

But the referee's decision to give the spot-kick to the Three Lions didn't go down too well with the Colombia team. They got up in the referees face, scuffed up the penalty spot, and generally displayed the worst kind of shit-housery that you would have hope will be soon cast out of the sport entirely.
Even still, Eric Dier's penalty knocked them out the cup. Colombia were sent packing, but - as England supporters know too well - the taste of defeat in penalties in a World Cup knockout game is pretty unbearable.
This is what makes what Gareth Southgate did all the more classier. When the side were knocked out last night, he was pictured putting an arm round the players and consoling some of the Colombia side.

Fair play to Southgate.
