The unofficial rule has come into play with the first batch of Icon Swaps available in this year's game.
If you want to complete all of these Icon Swap challenges, it'll take 45 victories which equates to around 15 hours of game time if you win every game without fail.
But to combat this, Eurogamer have revealed the community now use 'golden goal' in FUT Friendlies, which means your opponent must quit if you score the first goal.
Worried about your win/loss record? Don't be. Quitting out of friendlies doesn't negatively impact that at all.
It's a tactic that manages to eliminate the grind EA Sports have implemented in earning those prime icon cards.
Some of the legends available to obtain are Ronald Koeman, Frank Rijkaard and Thierry Henry.
One Reddit user said: I like golden goal but if people celebrates or pauses after they score, then I won't quit. Few games I was about to leave but then opponent began to celebrate and pausing, I played whole game. It's about respect for eachother.
Golden Goal in FIFA 21 is a great concept, however I feel it should be on an individual basis if the player wants to take part.

If they don't, then the player should not be subject to any form of abuse for simply wanting to play the game. #FUT21 #GoldenGoal #IconSwaps
"Dont be asshole and don't expect that everyone quits after the first goal. Some of us is playing for fun. People stress too much about the game. Just reminding, this is only a game!"
While a second added: "I appreciate everyone who quit when I went 1-0 up, only right that I do it back. Did 3 tokens in like 2 hours."
Another stated: "Without the golden rule thing, I wouldn't do the swaps tbh. No time in the weekdays. WL on weekends. Due to golden goal, I already have my [Nemanja] Vidic by playing just on Sunday. Thanks to the community."
Not every player is on board with the idea however and think it's another way for the community to be 'toxic' online.
"If you want to do it, you go ahead but you cant expect everyone to do it and get mad because people wont quit 1-0 down," one gamer argued.
While a second followed up with: "I think the problem comes from those that expect EVERYONE to do it, and will pause after the first goal expecting them to quit on command.
"Those same people will also quit after being tied up on 99% of the time as well."
