Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted looking visibly baffled at one of Manchester United's substitutions last night.

United were 1-0 up against Burnley and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to sub off goalscorer Anthony Martial for left-back Luke Shaw.

While the change made sense to preserve a lead, the 77-year-old was caught on camera looking shocked at the Frenchman's withdrawal.

Many United fans shared their shock as the 23-year-old impressed again while leading the line.

Martial is currently in red hot form after a prolific festive period.

He scored two in his side's 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day as well as netting the opener last night.

Andreas Pereira capitalised on a Charlie Taylor mistake and laid the ball off to Martial who coolly slotted past Nick Pope.

Burnley rarely threatened David De Gea's goal and Martial left the field for Shaw in the 89th minute.

Despite that, United did manage to double their lead in added time.

Daniel James countered quickly and squared the ball to Marcus Rashford who sealed all three points.

United are up to fifth in the table and are one point behind Chelsea who face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

They'll need Rashford and Martial firing if they want to get back into the Champions League.

The England international spoke to BT Sport following the game and lavished his fellow forward with praise.

"He (Martial) was brilliant again today.

"For a forward, there's nothing better than scoring goals.

"Hopefully it keeps his confidence high and this can continue until the end of the season.

"We could have been more clinical. Their centre-halves were heading away every single ball that came in and it wasn't easy, but we did well to get the win."
