Referee Seb Stockbridge hilariously 'forgot how to count to ten' when refereeing Doncaster Rovers vs Oxford United on New Year's Day.

Oxford had received a free-kick just outside the area and Stockbridge was counting out the yards between the ball and the wall.

However, the whistler only counted seven steps and sprayed the turf to signal where the wall should be, much to the bemusement of Oxford's players.

You can check out the full video below.

The visual of Rovers players sliding from their original position to line-up with the ref's incorrect call is an amusing one.

However, Oxford winger James Henry was furious with the referee and laid out the distance to show his mistake.

Defender John Mousinho was also keen to voice his displeasure to Stockbridge.

Despite this, the official didn't change his mind and Tariqe Fosu had to take the set-piece with a wall position much closer to him.

Oxford's fans seemed to take it on the chin however and could be heard counting out his steps the next time they received a free-kick.

Twitter reacted to the gaff in typical fashion.

Doncaster went on to win the League One clash 1-0 but we'll never know if the wall being further away could have led to a goal.

What do you think is the funniest refereeing gaffe you have seen?
