Leeds United's Luke Ayling showed he could laugh at himself with an amazing response to his woeful pass attempt during Sunday's 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

Jamie Carragher on commentary actually burst out laughing when, when Leeds were on a late attack and Ayling completely miskicked the ball. It was one of the worst passes of the season, as it looped backwards to land at the feet of Bruno Fernandes.

We're not even sure who Ayling was aiming for - but the Leeds right-back has since had his say on Twitter.

Replying to a tweet saying: "Luke Ayling with a pass that made him look like he's genuinely never kicked a football before in his life," the 29-year-old owned it.

"In my head it went differently," deadpanned Ayling, alongside laughter emojis and a few horrified emojis for good measure.

It's the kind of typically self-deprecating, down-to-earth response we've come to expect from the Leeds cult hero, who's clearly unafraid to have a chuckle at his own errors.

The dreadful pass itself was in keeping with an incredibly low-quality, end-of-season game as the two sides largely cancelled each other out.

Leeds have been impressive under Marcelo Bielsa in their first season back in the Premier League in 16 years, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team boast an exciting attacking line-up.

However after United won a thrilling encounter 6-2 earlier in the season, Sunday afternoon's game had precisely eight less goals involved in it.

So Ayling's pass may genuinely have been one of the highlights of the 90 minutes.

Good to see him step forward and own it - we would expect absolutely nothing less.
