Emiliano Martinez cheekily asked Virgil van Dijk if he "was sure" about Liverpool going first in the Community Shield penalty shootout.

Arsenal won the Community Shield on Saturday afternoon with a 5-4 shootout victory following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Referee Andre Marriner brought captains Virgil van Dijk and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang together to decide who would be taking the first penalty.

Van Dijk confidently stated he wanted The Reds to go first which prompted Martinez to ask: "You sure? Are you sure?"

The Argentine's mind games did not go unnoticed and Aubameyang's expression was priceless.

Liverpool's choice to go first would come back to haunt them as Rhian Brewster stuck the bar to give Arsenal the advantage.

Aubameyang stepped up to convert the final penalty and give his side their second Wembley win in a month.

Gunners fans picked up on Martinez's attempt to rattle Liverpool and they love his winning mentality.

Martinez came into the Arsenal first team after Bernd Leno suffered a knee injury back in June.

The 27-year-old played the rest of the Premier League season as well as Arsenal's run to FA Cup glory.

He has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium and Arteta told reporters after Saturday's win per Goal: "Emi has shown in the last few months what he is able to do for this football club.

"I am convinced that he has the level to play for us consistently at that level.

"He showed that today in a final. But I cannot stop the speculation. That is something I cannot stop and what other people can write about us.

"I am not going to discuss publicly what is happening with other players."
