Fede Valverde's Girlfriend Shares Image Of Real Madrid Star’s Nasty Foot Injury

Ouch.

Fede Valverde's girlfriend shared an image of the Real Madrid star's brutal foot injury - taken before the Champions League game against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Uruguayan was an injury doubt going into Wednesday's game after picking up a knock in Real's 2-1 win over Barcelona at the weekend. However Madrid urgently needed someone to fill in at right wing-back - and Valverde played through the pain in the quarter-final second leg.

Valverde's partner, Mina Bonino, shared an image of the spectacular purple bruise the player had on his ankle and foot - even before the Champions League match had kicked off.

Ouch. Clearly the 22-year-old wasn't fully fit as - if our foot was that colour - we'd be resting it for a week before kicking a ball (let alone defending for a full 90 minutes against Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield).

The screenshot of the FaceTime call between Valverde and his better half - shared by Bonino on Twitter - showed the bruise in all its glory.

Naturally, Bonino didn't share the image before the game, which ended in a 0-0 draw and saw Real qualify for the semi-finals after their 3-1 in Madrid. Otherwise Liverpool's players would have known that Valverde was carrying the injury.

"This was today afternoon," wrote Bonino. "I did not want to put anything [on social media] until the game was over and surely later you will challenge me for publishing it, but I must do it all the same, because it is your effort and nobody gifted you anything."

Plenty of Real Madrid fans replied, expressing their pride and thanks that Valverde - one of the more unsung but hard-working players in Zinedine Zidane's team - had clearly played through what looks an extremely painful injury.

Liverpool gave a better account of themselves than in the first leg and tried several methods of attacking a Real Madrid defence that was without Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, the Spanish champion's first-choice centre-backs, as well as Dani Carvajal.

However they could not find a way through thanks to an excellent performance from Thibaut Courtois and an industrious performance from the visitors.

Let's hope for Valverde's sake that the Uruguay international gets to rest his foot for a bit before the Champions League semi-final first leg against Chelsea in two weeks.
