David James has come out in support of Loris Karius after the goalkeeper's howlers cost Liverpool the Champions League final. And this has seemed to upset several Reds supporters.
David James had a tough time playing for Liverpool. During his time at Anfield, he was known as 'Calamity James,' owing to his mistakes between the sticks.
And the retired goalie is of the belief that Karius should get a second chance at Liverpool, despite costing the Reds a shot at the Champions League with two awful mistakes.
"Yeah, he's got time on his side for sure," James told the Mirror. "He's a talented goalkeeper. Unfortunately, it was a Champions League final where it didn't quite go right for him.
"If you want to be playing in those games, you have to expect things like this. Playing for Liverpool comes with a tremendous upside, but if there is a downside, then every mistake is going to be amplified more than anyone else's.
"I hope Karius is given an opportunity to set the record straight and prove why he was such an important buy. I hope he's able to bounce back and prove what a good goalkeeper he could be."
But this has not gone down too well with Reds fans, who feel that Liverpool need to search elsewhere for a number one. AS Roma's Alisson Becker is reportedly a target for Jurgen Klopp, after having a brilliant season in the Italian leagues.
The hope is that Kairus, who clearly is a talented goalkeeper, is able to get over that one poor match he had in Kiev and move on. Whether that's at Anfield or not, remains to be seen.
