Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo was determined not to let Barcelona rival Lionel Messi overshadow him in the clash of the GOATS.

Not content with scoring two goals against Barca in the Champions League Group G clash on Tuesday night, Ronaldo also showed his defensive prowess to end a slick run from Messi as the video below shows.

Portuguese ace Ronaldo was given a frosty reception by Barca fans on his arrival at the Nou Camp for the encounter due to his Real Madrid association.

But he wasn't fazed one bit, putting Juve in front with a penalty in the 13th minute, before the visitors doubled their lead through Weston McKennie's bicycle kick.

Ronaldo added a second spot-kick shortly after the restart to take his Champions League goal tally to 134.

Messi had seven shots on target but could find no way past 42-year-old Gianluigi Buffon.

Ronaldo was substituted in the second minute of added time as Juventus pipped Barca to top spot in the group.

It was Barcelona's first defeat in a group game since 2016. Both sides had already qualified for the knockout stages.

They started the day with a three-point cushion over Juve but finish second and will be unseeded in next Monday's last-16 draw.

The meeting between Messi and Ronaldo was the first since the former Manchester United star's move to Serie A in 2018.

Ronaldo and Messi have now faced each other in 36 games between club (34) and country (2), with both international meetings being friendlies.

Messi has been victorious in 16 of their meetings, Ronaldo in 11, with nine draws.
