Cristiano Ronaldo outshone rival Lionel Messi with two goals in Juventus' 3-0 win at Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Portuguese ace was given a frosty reception by Barca fans on his arrival at the Nou Camp due to his days with Real Madrid.

But Messi was quick to give Ronaldo a friendly hug prior to kick-off.

Ronaldo then put Juve in front with a penalty in the 13th minute of the Group G encounter, before adding a second spot-kick shortly after the restart. He was substituted in the second minute of added time.

The heavy defeat saw Barca finished behind Juve on goal difference. Both sides had already qualified for the knockout stages.

The meeting between Messi and Ronaldo was the first since the former Manchester United star's move to Serie A in 2018.

Messi returned for Barca after missing out on the last two Champions League matches, while Ronaldo was absent from the reverse fixture after testing positive for Covid-19.

Ronaldo and Messi have now faced each other in 36 games between club (34) and country (2), with both international meetings being friendlies.

Messi has been victorious in 16 of their meetings, Ronaldo in 11, with nine draws.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo will go up against Messi and Robert Lewandowski for the Player of the Year gong in the Globe Soccer Awards.

Ronaldo, Messi, Mohamed Salah and Ronaldinho have made the final four-man shortlist for the Player of the Century award.

Fans from around the world can vote for their favourite candidate by heading to the Globe Soccer website.
