Cristiano Ronaldo has explained how he got his number of choice at Juventus.

The Portugal international made the sensational move to Serie A this summer, in a deal thought to be around €100 million.

At Manchester United, Ronaldo famously did not want to wear the Red Devils' famous number 7 jersey, feeling that it carried too much expectation.

Sir Alex Ferguson thought otherwise, and so Ronaldo wore the top throughout his career, both at Man United and Real Madrid. It's fair to say, it's brought Ronaldo the best of luck.

"At the beginning of my career in Manchester, yes. I remember when I signed for Manchester I arrived at the club and I asked for 28, because it was the number I used at Sporting," recounted Ronaldo.

"But the coach said to me: 'No, you're not going to wear 28, you're going to use No.7.' And I was a little bit afraid, petrified, because, you know, I knew that Beckham used that shirt.

"But I said OK, I accept the challenge, and since then it's been my lucky number. Because everything I have won in football, it was with that shirt. It's my lucky number.

It's no wonder, therefore, why he didn't want to trade in the shirt number when he made the move to Turin. He is CR7, after all.

"It's my favourite number and I spoke with the club at the beginning about it," Ronaldo told DAZN. "And of course I spoke with Cuardrado because he was No. 7

"He said it was no problem and it will be a pleasure to give you No. 7, my shirt. So I'm surprised in a good way as the club helped me and of course Cuadrado accepted it well.

Ronaldo participated in Juventus' opening Serie A win over Chievo. He didn't score but did make a huge impression, as you have come to expect of the global superstar.
