Cristiano Ronaldo has sent Sir Alex Ferguson a classy message on social media after news emerged that his former boss underwent emergency surgery because of a brain haemorrhage.

The awful news about Ferguson's condition came to surface on Saturday evening and tributes have flooded in for the great man whose reign saw Man United dominate football with the north-west club, winning 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles.

Manchester United provided an official update on Twitter, saying that the great man had undergone surgery and that it was a successful procedure, but he needs some time to recover now.

Ronaldo, who somehow is still at the top of his game, joined the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon for £12.4 million, after Ferguson was thoroughly impressed with the youngster's performance in Sporting's 3-1 victory over Man United. He became the club's first-ever Portuguese player and wore the famous number seven.

Since then, Ronaldo has set the world alight. He moved to Real Madrid for a world record transfer record fee in 2009 and, even today, well into his thirties, Ronaldo could be considered the world's best or even the greatest to ever play the game. It was an astounding find by Ferguson. And now the 33-year-old has come out with a classy message.

Ronaldo was not the only former player to pay tribute, however. Brazilian midfielder Anderson wrote a heartfelt message to the legend via his Instagram account.

The Brazilian said in it: "Boss, I learn with you to win whatever happens, so now I demand you: win, win, win, win! Please!!!!!! You are the best I ever known, as a person, as a manager. Can't wait to see you again! My best wishes boss! Get well soon! Please!"

It's clear to see that Sir Alex has touched the hearts and minds of millions. We wish him, his family and friends all the best and a speedy recovery to him.
