Colombia Football Federation Post Respectful Tweet Following England Defeat

They're showing grace in defeat, even if it's come a little late on.

Colombia's football federation posted a classy tweet following their defeat to England.

The tweet, strangely, comes several days after the Three Lions defeated Colombia on penalties, but around the same time that images surface online of Gareth Southgate comforting players on their side who missed their penalties.

The Round of 16 clash on Tuesday was played mostly in the middle of the park: England remained in control for the most part and attempted to break through the hardened and rigid Colombia defence. Harry Kane earned a penalty and broke the deadlock from the spot, before the South Americans equalised late-on.

The clash was heated. Colombia seemed to be using every trick in the book to put England off their game, while England, in fairness, did get involved in some trickery themselves, though nowhere near the level of their World Cup opponents.

England won the ensuing shootout and rivalries were put aside, with Southgate seen putting his arm around upset Colombia players.

Colombia have now put out this tweet with an image of Southgate consoling players. It translates to: "Football, a sport that excels respect, admiration and fair play."

The replies from Colombia supporters suggest they're not happy with this post. They they feel the team was robbed in the game, which is odd because, from the England side at least, it seemed as though their team were doing their utmost to cheat, a player attempting to scuff up the penalty spot before Kane scored being a key example.

Either way, England will continue their World Cup venture on Saturday with a game against Sweden. They'll be expected to win and progress to the semifinals to play the winner of Russia and Croatia, but they know the Swedes will be no easy contest, with the Three Lions beating them only twice in their last 15 meetings with the side.
