Chelsea Draw Up List Of Replacements For Conte

How did it come to this?

There's the increasing feeling that Antonio Conte will leave Chelsea this summer. Public tussles with the boardroom over failed transfers and lack of funds have soured the once glowing relationship, with the boss looking he already has his bags packed.

It's been a strange second season for Chelsea and their boss; the player's performances have chimed satisfactory notes but often appear reluctant to go above and beyond the level required.

If Arsenal jam their gears against weakened sides and even stall on the big occasions, Chelsea's gear-stick has been in flicker between third and fourth.

But no one could've guessed this would happen after the former-Juventus boss' inaugural season: He had re-imagined modern English football with the use of wing-backs and effortlessly glided Chelsea to a title victory in the year that Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho were supposed to come out on top.

But his side have struggled to get a foothold this season. They are sat in fifth spot, looking set to miss out on a Champions League place, with the F.A Cup being their only chance of silverware.

Butt now, according to Telegraph, Roman Abramovich has been urged to find a replacement to the fiery Italian, with Hoffenheim's Julian Nagelsmann, Roma's Eusebio Di Francesco, and even Huddersfield Town's David Wagner in contention.

Though some of the names on the list might come as a surprise to some, there's a feeling that the club should turn to a manager who can offer a fresh and dynamic approach.

This is nothing new: Andre Villas-Boas was brought in as he supposed to be a younger, spritelier version of Mourinho - but it soon became apparent that the only thing they had in common was nationality; the former Porto manager sacked after only eight months in charge at the Bridge.

Chelsea has reportedly placed Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at the top of their wish-list, but it would take something special for the Argentine to be encouraged to make the move from North London.

There, too, is the possibility that clear-the air-discussions could amend the fractured relationship between Conte and the club. But appears highly unlikely right now.
