Bruno Fernandes has named Napoli star Piotr Zielinski as the 'top' midfielder he'd love to play with again in the future.

Fernandes has become Manchester United's talisman since arriving in 2020 and regularly lines up alongside two of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay or Fred.

But he's publicly declared he'd like to reunite with Zielinski, who he spent time with at Udinese, in the future.

The 26-year-old told Poland's Canal Plus Sport: "Technically, I can say that Zielinski is better trained than I am. We had a good challenge. I think in the past, Zielinski was actually a bit shy. He was really young then, just like me, at that time.

"However, we came from different countries, different mentality, and it was different for both of us. I have a really good relationship with Piotr. He's a top guy, I like him a lot. He is one of the people I met in Italy with whom I am in touch all the time.

"I spoke to him a few months ago and told him that I would like to play with him again. So, who knows what the future has waiting for us. For me, he is a really, really top player."

Zielinski has helped Napoli to the cusp of Champions League qualification this season, scoring eight goals and nothing 11 assists.

Fernandes didn't necessarily say he wanted the Polish international to join him at Old Trafford, but many will jump to that conclusion.

The Portuguese superstar has recently discussed the one regret he's had since arriving in England - not speaking to Sir Alex Ferguson.

That is one of my biggest regrets in the club until now," Fernandes answered in a fan Q&A.

"I met him already but never had the chance to speak with him like I would like to do.

"I think everyone who watched Manchester United in the past remembers Sir Alex. [That is true] for me, growing up and seeing the club, being a fan of the club and seeing the development of the team.

"I would like to have a conversation with him and understand, from his point of view, what he thinks about me and what I can improve or still improve in my game to be better."
