Arsenal Fans Are Criticising Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Body Language

“Aubameyang was the worst player on the pitch... He isn't captain material."

Arsenal fans including Piers Morgan have expressed serious worries about the body language of their captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 31-year-old striker signed a new contract in mid-September, delighting Arsenal fans. But he's struggled after agreeing the deal, netting only one Premier League goal since (a penalty against Manchester United).

However it's his attitude as well as his form that is concerning Gunners fans, including Morgan.

"There's something about the body language, particularly of Aubameyang right now," he told Sky Sports News.

"Whether that's a lack of confidence because he hasn't scored for a few games... there's something going on behind the scenes I think at Arsenal.

"Whether it's linked to Mesut Ozil and his situation, with £350,000 per week going to a guy sitting there on his PlayStation, I don't know, but it seems to be seeping into this team.

"A little bit of discontent, a lack of fight, a lack of passion, a lack of coherent tactics, and all these things, we had them a few weeks ago, so they've gone somewhere."

While Piers admits he is a "huge fan" of Aubameyang - unsurprising given his previously prolific form for the club - some Arsenal fans on social media are being less forgiving.

"Aubameyang's body language stinks," summed up one supporter after the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Sunday.

"Aubameyang was the worst player on the pitch today. His body language was very languid. He isn't captain material," was an even more damning assessment.

Arsenal's No 14 is certainly lacking sharpness for arguably the first time in his career at the club. He was barely a threat in the box against Wolves, which is something you can rarely say about the Gabon international.

However Aubameyang was full of praise for Mikel Arteta after his double against Chelsea won the FA Cup for Arsenal in August. So it would be bizarre if he's somehow lost faith in his manager so soon into the 2020/21 season.

Morgan certainly believes that Arteta - and Aubameyang - deserve the benefit of the doubt for now.

"I think you've always got to give a new manager, I believe, probably three or four windows," Morgan told Sky Sports. "They've got to get the team that they want to be judged on."

However Arsenal face Tottenham on Sunday, eight points behind their north London rivals who sit top of the table, while Arsenal are in 14th spot.

Another out-of-sorts display from Aubameyang and his teammates and the scrutiny will only increase on both the manager and his captain.
