Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson will miss his father's funeral back in Brazil - due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jose Becker tragically drowned on Wednesday after being involved in a swimming accident near his holiday home in Lavras do Sul.

Per talkSPORT, Alisson is 'trying desperately' to get back to his native country but he has been forced to say in the UK.

Brazil is currently a 'red-listed' country by the UK government and it means the 28-year-old would've been forced to quarantine for 10 days upon his return.

His wife, Natalia, is also heavily pregnant and is said to have had an impact on his decision.

According to ESPN and Reuters, Jose was declared missing around 5 p.m. local time and the local fire department were called as part of the search for the 57-year-old.

Authorities told ESPN Brazil they had located the body at 11:59 p.m and there was no foul play suspected surrounding his death.

It is believed Alisson's brother, Muriel, has managed to make it for the funeral.

The footballing world has rallied around Alisson in recent days with clubs and players posting messages of support.

Alisson took to Twitter on Thursday to thank fans for all their messages in a difficult time.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone for the messages and tributes yo my beloved father.

"Our family feels loved by everyone! God bless each one's life!"
