Ahmed Elmohamady is remaining level-headed on the hype surrounding Egypt teammate Mohammed Salah.

The 30-year-old has said that the Liverpool forward is still not at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, as they have been banging in the goals for 'seven or eight years.'

In a interview via The Independent, Elmohamady was complimenting Salah on his achievements his year, but felt that he's still not on the level of the elite pair.

This season, Salah has helped guide Liverpool to the semi-finals of the Champions League, with the final all-but sealed for Jurgen Klopp's men, barring a catastrophic upset in the second-leg against AS Roma.

Salah has also won the PFA Player of the Year Award and scooped the FWA Footballer of the Year award this year, rounding off a season where he scored 43 goals. It's an unbelievable achievement for the player in his inaugural season.

Because of his phenomenal goal record, there has even been comparisons between the Egyptian King and Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But Elmohamady, who will be playing alongside the superstar at this year's World Cup in Russia, has said that we shouldn't too get ahead of ourselves when discussing Salah.

"It's only one season. For the level of Ronaldo and Messi, he has to do it for seven or eight years. He still has a long way to go," said the Aston Villa right-winger.

It's a brutal assessment of his teammate, but arguably a correct one. But surely Salah will have the right to be included in the comparisons if does win the Ballon d'Or next year. A Champions League victory with the Reds would see to that.

And if he does, he will be the first player to win the revered award since Brazilian forward Kaka in 2007, before the Ballon d'Or turned into a two-horse race between Messi and Ronaldo

Who do you think? Should be comparing Salah to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi? Let us know in the comments below.
