Fulham's Ademola Lookman is probably hiding under his duvet after his woeful Panenka attempt from the penalty spot against West Ham on Saturday - but it has worked for him before.

The Cottagers were trailing 1-0 to Tomas Soucek's late strike at the London Stadium when Tom Cairney tumbled under a soft Said Benrahma challenge in the fifth minute of added time.

After a VAR review eventually led to the award of the penalty, Lookman, on loan at Craven Cottage from German side RB Leipzig, was the surprising choice to take the spot-kick.

In a moment that will haunt him for some time, the 23-year-old went for an ambitious Panenka but got his effort completely wrong and saw it fly slowly into the hands of Lukasz Fabianski.

It proved to be the last kick of the game and could prove oh so costly come the end of the season in Fulham's battle against relegation from the Premier League.

Lookman was widely criticised for trying such an audacious penalty, but it's something he's pulled off in the past.

The video below shows Lookman, then of Charlton, scoring for England Under-20s in a penalty shoot-out defeat to Brazil back in September 2016.

Understandably, Fulham boss Scott Parker was not best pleased with Lookman's latest attempt.

"I'm disappointed and angry," Parker said. "You can't take penalties like that and he knows that. He's a young player and he's learning.

"The boy has made a mistake. Ade is the first to understand that. When you're young and you're learning you have to learn quick. He is disappointed and rightly so. This is part and parcel of football, of growing as players and as a team. We'll get around him now.

"Ade has been fantastic since he's been in. He'll need to dust himself down. When you're young you make mistakes."

It's the second penalty Fulham have missed in recent games after Aleksandar Mitrovic was off-target in the 1-1 draw at Sheffield United.

"Ademola is devastated, apologetic," said Fulham captain Cairney.

"He's a young man who's had a good start here and is a big player for us. We'll get around him and pick him up, he knows he could have got us a point."

Midfielder Harrison Reed added: "He has apologised so we'll brush it under the carpet and move on. He's gutted in there, we all are."
