AC Milan started their game against Sassuolo on Sunday in the best way possible - with the fastest goal in Serie A history.

Straight from the kick off, Hakan Calhanoglu ran with the ball, and the Sassuolo players seemed fine with him just advancing unopposed.

Not only were they comfortable with that, they also felt it was OK to let Rafael Leao make an unmarked run in from the left wing.

They seemed slightly panicked when Calhanoglu passed it to Leao to put him through on goal, but by then it was too late and Milan had scored the fasted goal in Serie A history as Leao calmly slotted past goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

From start to finish, the goal took just 6.2 seconds to go from the centre circle to the back of the net.

The move beat Paolo Poggi's pedestrian 8.1 second effort for Piacenza in their 3-1 defeat to Fiorentina 2001.

21-year-old Leao has had a solid season to date with two goals and three assists in eight Serie A appearances, but now knows that his name will go down in history - at least until someone manages to go even quicker.

Manager Stefano Pioli will also be pleased, with the goal potentiall keeping his side at the top of the table. They are currently three points ahead of second-placed Inter Milan - who are drawing 0-0 with Spezia at the time of writing.
