A reddit user has put together a table of the 92 best clubs based on their average finishes in the football pyramid over the past 28 seasons.

User u/NealMaupay (a Brentford fan rather than the Brighton striker) compiled the list by starting in 1992 - the year the Premier League began - to the present.

To qualify, each club had to have been active for at least 14 of the 28 seasons.

He wrote: "Wimbledon includes both Wimbledon and AFC Wimbledon because neither of them would make it in on their own. That didn't really seem fair because the clubs have been a regular of the Football League no matter what they're called officially.

"Chester City's phoenix club Chester FC, however, were not counted because it would have only dragged their rating down out of the 92.

"I know 'football was invented in 1992' and all that but it would have been too much work and it seemed a decent cut-off point. Maybe one day I'll go further back to 1958 which is when the fourth division was added."

Clubs are split into four tiers (very appropriate for the current climate in the United Kingdom).

Manchester United come out on top of Tier 1, with Arsenal second, Liverpool third and Chelsea fourth. Manchester City are ninth.

Crystal Palace, Bolton and Norwich make up the bottom three.

Wolves are top of Tier 2, with Derby, Birmingham and Ipswich close behind. Huddersfield, Cardiff and Swansea are in the bottom three.

Tier 3 places Hull top, with Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford following.

Tier 4 sees Oxford, Grimsby, Wycombe and Bury at the top of the ladder.

Spare a thought for poor Macclesfield who prop up the four tiers.
